Breaking News: Russian plane with 224 passengers onboard crashes over Sinai, Egypt

A Russian plane with 224 people on board crashed in a mountainous part of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Saturday, with medics at the site reporting casualties, officials said.
Ambulances reached the site and began evacuating “casualties,” officials and state media reported, without elaborating on their condition.
The plane took off early Saturday from the southern Sinai resort of Sharm el-Sheikh bound for Saint Petersburg in Russia but communication was lost 23 minutes after departure, officials said.
“Military planes have discovered the wreckage of the plane… in a mountainous area, and 45 ambulances have been directed to the site to evacuate dead and wounded,” a cabinet statement said.
Officials and the state MENA news agency later said the “casualties” were being transferred to nearby hospitals.
At Saint Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport, anxious family members awaited news of their loved ones.
“I am meeting my parents,” said 25-year-old Ella Smirnova, a tall young woman seemingly in shock.
“I spoke to them last on the phone when they were already on the plane, and then I heard the news.”
“I will keep hoping until the end that they are alive, but perhaps I will never see them again.”
A senior Egyptian aviation official said the plane was a charter flight operated by a Russian company carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members.
The official said the plane was flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet when communication was lost.
Sergei Lzvolsky, an official with the Russian aviation agency Rosaviatsia told Interfax news agency that the Kogalymavia Russian airline had departed Sharm el-Sheikh at 5:51 am local time (0351 GMT).
He said the Airbus 321 did not make contact as expected with air traffic controllers in Cyprus.
“Communication was lost today with the Airbus 321 of Kogalymavia which was carrying out flight 9268 from Sharm el-Sheikh to Saint Petersburg,” Lzvolsky later told Russian television networks.
“The plane departed Sharm el-Sheikh with 217 passengers and 7 crew members. At 7:14 Moscow time the crew was scheduled to make contact with… Larnaca, however this did not happen and the plane disappeared from the radar screens.”
The flight was scheduled to land at St Petersburg at 0912 GMT, he said.
The contents of the plane’s last communication with ground crews were not immediately disclosed.
The wreckage was found in a mountainous area roughly 100 kilometres (60 miles) south of the North Sinai town of El-Arish, Egyptian officials said.
State television reported that Prime Minister Ismail Sharif was headed to the site of the accident.
The last major commercial airliner crash in Egypt happened in 2004, when a Flash Airlines Boeing 737 plunged into the Red Sea after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh.
The 148 people aboard that flight, most of whom were French, were killed.
Millions of tourists, many of them Russian, visit the resort town, one of Egypt’s major draws for tourists looking for pristine beaches and scuba diving.
The resort, and others dotting the southern Sinai Red Sea coast, are heavily secured by the military and police as an Islamist militant insurgency rages in the north of the restive peninsula, which borders Israel and the Gaza Strip.
Militants in the north who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group have killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the army ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Appeal Court Dismisses Saraki’s Case Against CCT Trial

ustice Moore Adumen of the Court of Appeal this morning dismissed an appeal for the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Adumen, reading the unanimous verdict of the three man panel, said the tribunal, which docked the Senate President on 22 September and 21 October was properly constituted, thus trashing one of the grounds of the objections to the trial by Senate President and his lawyers.

sarakicctt.jpeg On the contrary, the judges in their unanimous verdict said the tribunal led by Danladi Umar could sit with the chairman and one other member.

Adumen who read the judgement relied on section 28 of the Interpretation Act to reach the decision.

He said the Code of Conduct Tribunal and Code of Conduct Bureau Act and the constitution did not talk about a quorum.

Adumen in a further blow to the Senate President said the CCT has criminal jurisdiction, though limited.

The judges also unanimously ruled that the Code of Conduct Tribunal has powers to issue a bench warrant.

The court also ruled that the solicitor-general can institute proceedings in the absence of the attorney-general since the office of the AGF is statutory and cannot die whether the AGF is in court or not.

Adumen said the judgment could not be delivered on 19 October as earlier planned because the justices have to struggle to reach a consensus.

Saraki, is standing trial on a 13-count charge of false assets declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Strange: 20 years old girl arrested by cross river police for selling her baby for 20k

Maria Ekanem sold her two week old baby to an Abuja-based woman for N20,000. According to a report by Vanguard, the 20-year-old school drop out from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, was arrested by the police along with her accomplices.
Her boyfriend got her pregnant and asked her to abort the baby. However, a doctor agreed to help her with free antenatal care and food and in exchange she agreed to sell her baby after delivery.
Paraded along with Ms Ekanem were the medical doctor, Okokon Offiong Okohon,55, the proprietor of Evangel Clinic,of 2, Atu Street, a 70-year-old matron of Sadatoe Maternity located at Umoh Street and a nurse.
Maria Elemi, a Senior Secondary School student of NYSC Demonstration School, Calabar, leaked the plan to sell the baby to the police.
"When I came back from school on Monday, Maria told me she wanted to take the baby to the parents of the boy who impregnated her since she can no longer cope with taking care of the baby," said Miss Elemi, whose parents Maria Ekanem was living with after delivery.
Maria Ekanem gave the baby to the matron when they got to Inyang Street in Calabar South. The matron in turn handed her to the buyer.
"The woman gave Maria N20,000 and asked her to pay the nurse at the Evangel Clinic and use the rest for herself."
Miss Elemi became suspicious when the driver of the SUV told the woman with the baby that her husband said she should take her to the airport to catch a flight to Abuja.
"I started wondering why they should take the girl to the airport when the boyfriend to Maria and her parents live here in Calabar," Maria stated.
Cross River Police Public Relations Officer, ASP John Eluu, who paraded Maria along with the doctor and Matron, said detectives swung into action and arrested the suspects immediately information got to them at the Federal Housing Police Station.
Eluu added that investigations is currently ongoing to apprehend the woman who bought the baby.

Touching Story: Facts about Linda Ikeji's Successfull mansion

Some Words On Marble From Miss Ikeji

http://venturesafrica.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/linda-Ikeji.jpg

"My name is Linda Ikeji. I'm a blogger. I'm 35 years old and I have never...never ever in my life slept with a man for money. Not only have I never done it, I have never even consider it...and here I am with a house that cost me over half a billion naira.

Listen, you are beautiful and you are stronger than you know. There's absolutely nothing you can't achieve if you set your mind to it, put heart and soul into it. Up until five years ago, I was a struggling entrepreneur. I can't tell you how many offices in this Lagos I sat in for hours waiting to see people who could support my business...but most times, I never passed the reception area. But I never gave up and I never stopped believing and here I am today.

You too can be this..you can be better than this. No dream is too big, no dream is too small, no mountain is too high...it's all in your mind. It's all up to you. If you believe in you, in your God who is guiding you, then the sky is your starting point.

Please stop waiting around for a man to give to you...to put food on your table and put clothes on your back. I promise you, you can do it for yourself. Start thinking big, believe in yourself, be creative and start working. Realize that your dreams are valid...and nobody will make your dreams come true except you. Find what you are good at. Find something that you are passionate about. Work hard at it. Be consistent. Be patient. Start young. Even if you're not young, it's never too late!"I have been hustling since I left secondary school..started modeling before I entered university in 1998. Was running a modeling agency even while I was a student and made it a full time business after I left university. I never doubted that I would succeed one day, because I was determined. And please do not think this happened over night. I've been blogging since 2006...November this year will make it exactly 9 years. God, consistency and hard work brought me here today.Unfortunately, a lot of our young girls aren't patient and some are lazy, they want it quick and fast but it doesn't work like that. Success takes time - takes hard work - takes passion - takes consistency - but more than anything else, it takes the Grace of God.

I was a 30 year old broke woman and on my birthday, a very sad and depressed me turned to God and begged him. I told Him you promised me, when will You fulfill Your promise? Am I not Your child? Have I not lived according to Your teachings? When will You bless me? Please God help me...and with tears in my eyes, I begged Him. I cried and I begged and I begged and I begged. A few months later my life changed. Never underestimate God's love for you and the power of prayer. And never stop working. Listen, I make enough money to hire so many people to work on this blog while I go do other things and enjoy myself...but I don't do that. I'm up while some of you are sleeping, and already blogging before some of you wake up. I don't take this for granted. I know to stay on top, I have to constantly work and nobody will be as dedicated as I am because this is not their own thing. It's mine and I have to keep feeding it. So I'm constantly here!

Young ladies, I promise you...you too can do this. You don't need to spread your legs for any bladdy man - because of how much? N200k? That's how much my shoes cost - so why you should give up your body for that? Your sacred body? God's temple? 200k that you can make in a week or even in a day if you pursue your dreams and still have your dignity intact? You think people don't see that you're messing around with all dem old married men and talking about it? Think ladies, think! When next a man propositions you...tell him to get lost, that you will get yours yourself! Abi, aren't you a woman? You know what they say about women? "A woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.". You are so strong, you don't even know!

Also, if you want God to bless you, you have to have a clean heart. All these backbiting, hating on others, trying to bring people down with hateful words, action etc - God doesn't like ugly. He has over 6 billion people to look after and you think he will pay extra attention to you if your heart is ugly? Wish people well, help people when you can. Be good to others. But more than anything else be good to yourself. Believe in yourself. It's very easy to give in to feelings of self-doubt and back down when things get tough, but you have to know that God will not give you anything you can't handle.

I swear to you, you are underestimating yourself. If you know the power that you have inside. If you know the things that you are capable of. If you know how far you can go...how high you can reach but you are holding yourself back because you're afraid of failing, because you don't think you have it in you. If only you know that you're stronger than you think. You are so powerful, you don't even know it. I'm not more special than you are. I don't have two heads. We serve the same God. Why can't you succeed? Think ladies, think.

Like Barack Obama's sister said, poverty is not an excuse! I used to sell/market beer at Sheraton hotel, Lagos when I was in university for N1,000 a day. I once lived on 'puff puff' and garri for weeks in UNILAG and I was supposedly a top model but nobody knew what I was going through. Trust me, I know poverty. Did you know I lived in Idi-oro, Mushin for 15 years? Up until when I was 25? Did you live in Mushin? Eh, so what's your excuse? I can't even say some things here for my family's privacy but here I am today because I never doubted myself and I never allowed all the doubters to distract me. I was focused. I was determined. I worked hard and I knew the God I served won't let me down. The road was long, sometimes very frustrating and painful but look at me now. God did it because he saw that I was willing!

"Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.” They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes.”

Please believe in yourself and watch God use you to set as an example for others.

May all your dreams come true!"

Rowdy session in the senate over Amaechi's screening

The senators were in rowdy session a few minutes ago over Rotimi Amaechi's screening. Minority leader of the senate, Godswill Akpabio announced that the PDP caucus in the senate had decided not to be involved in the screening of Amaechi since there are petitions against him that they have not resolved.
The Majority leader of the senate, Ali Ndume then said that since the PDP senators do not have questions for Amaechi, he should be allowed to take a bow and go. PDP senators vehemently rejected the request and the proper screening began.

Yesterday, the Ekiti Governor personally carried out the arrest of the FRSC official while on his way to the flag off of dualization of the Ado-Ikere-Ondo State boundary road and commissioning of some projects in Ikere town.
The FRSC officer, named Adeola Alabi left his side of the road which was bad and drove against the traffic to avoid potholes and then reconnect to his lane but unfortunately for him, he was caught by Fayose.
Fayose, who was evidently displeased with his action, ordered security operatives in his convoy to ensure that Alabi was arrested.
The incident which took place at Sawmill area of Ikere Ekiti, would cause traffic on the road as some residents came out to watch the drama.
After his arrest, Alabi prostrated before Fayose, begging him to have mercy on him but his pleas fell on deaf ears with Fayose maintaining that the law must take its course.
Fayose ordered that the Peugeot 505 Saloon car driven by Alabi to be seized and taken to the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA) yard.
Alabi is also expected to pay N50,000 as fine for driving against traffic.

BREAKING NEWS!! OONI OF IFE SECOND IN COMMAND DIES

Ooni's Second in Command 'Obalufe Omisakin' Dies, Aged 85

Obalufe.jpg

The selection process for the new Ooni of Ife may be delayed for long as a result of  the uncertainty on  the reported death of one of the two main Ile-Ife kingmakers, Obalufe of Iremo quarters, Oba Solomon Omisakin, on Thursday.

Obalufe, the leader of the chiefs on the right side of Ooni and next in rank to him, is also the prime minister of Ife who oversees the town in the absence of an Ooni.
Details of the circumstances surrounding his death was still sketchy as at the time of filing this report.
However  the  palace kinsmen kept mute on the matter as they repeatedly said: “Obawa lojiji (meaning, his death was sudden), we cannot comment on it now, but we will comment later.”
Obalufe, who was also the leader of the Ife royal chiefs, was one of the town’s kingmakers before his  death at the age of 85.
The news of his death spread across the  ancient town at about 1.30p.m, while the young and old including prominent chiefs and who is who in the land were seen rushing down to his palace at Iremo to ascertain the truth of  his demise.
THISDAY investigations in the palace around 1.45p.m of the day noted  that sympathisers,  relations ,close associates of the deceased as well as his family stormed the ruling palace in twos and threes to discuss the matter and console the family members of the departed.
However, many sympathisers were seen weeping uncontrollably while some were sobbing and mourning the death of the departed monarch.
Speaking with journalists  on the death, one of the prominent sons of the Iremo quarters in Ile-Ife who called himself as Alowooja Iyiola said the deceased had been hospitalized in the last few days.
Also, one of the deceased daughters who was contacted on phone on the development, burst into tears and said: “Won ti ku o.” meaning he has died.
She stressed  that Obalufe gave up the ghost at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, at the early hour of the day after he slumped in his residence and was rushed down to the hospital before he later gave up the ghost.
The daughter said:  “My father died at the age of 85 before he bid the world bye-bye.”
She remarked  further that he was kept at the casualty unit of the hospital when his health became worsened before he finally died.
As at the time of filing in this report, family sources hinted that relations and people of Ile-Ife would soon commence with the preparation of his final rites and noted that it could be done before the finality of selection process of new Ooni.
Also confirming his death, the Chairman, Landlord Association of Eleyele, Ile-ife, where Obalufe was living before his  exit, Chief Elijah Adeyele, described him as a good community leader that should be emulated by all .

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BRYMO ON ASIRI MAGAZINE

Exclusive “Day in, day out, I’m improving and I’m still on the journey to finding that universal culture”-BrymO

Exclusve Interview with Brymo
The connection we find with music, culture and identity is one that cannot be overlooked or said not to exist. They all work in hand, one way or the other, in defining the other but how exactly is this connection formed? Who better than, Olawale Oloforo, popularly know as BrymO to give us more insight into this. This interview takes you on an exciting journey of culture, music and identity, through the words and thoughts of BrymO. Enjoy this insightful with ASIRI’s Ona Akinde

ASIRIBehind the music, when all the doors are closed, who is BrymO?
Err, okay *laughs*, Brymo is just a regular guy. You know, I sleep, wake, eat, shit *laughs*. You know pretty much regular. I spend most of my time just listening to music and you know, relaxing and of course, when I’m not doing anything, it’s an opportunity for me to actually rejuvenate, to re -energize myself. So when the doors are closed, I’m pretty much like everybody else
Exclusve Interview with Brymo
ASIRI- What exactly is music for you?
Music, *laughs*. Music is like air, it makes everything bearable, irrespective of what you’re going through, whether you’re happy or you’re sad, or you’re just there. Music is useful at every point in time. There’s music for joy, for pain, there’s music for everything and that gives me an opportunity to constantly express myself in different ways. So when I’m sad, I create a moment; when I’m happy, it’s a moment and all of it put together. So music is everything.
ASIRI- So what inspires your music?
Pretty much everything *laughs*. You know, people, events, emotions, everything I can find. For me, music is like a serious thing while I’m being a child. So I can just experiment a lot, I work with everything I can. I think from the very beginning of my career, till now, I have worked with about 7 – 10 genres of music. I started out with Fuji and R&B, Ajuju, I’ve worked with Rock, Pop and recently, I’ve considered doing something with Apala. So it’s all about experimenting, creating new vibes on every project. The inspiration comes from everything across the world
ASIRIWhat comes to your mind when you hear this word?
Identity means, how you are perceived, how people see you when they look at you. Identity is the soul of your being and creates all perceptions of you. So what people think of you is in your identity. Basically, this is what identity is.
ASIRITo what extent has your music gone in defining your identity?
Oh, wow. A very long extent *laughs* I’m not sure if I have any identity outside music. I’m probably just a faceless guy without the music and music is 95% of my identity *laughs*
ASIRIHow would you define your identity?
I’m outspoken, I try to be as objective as I can be and I believe that I am nothing if my kind doesn’t progress. So my progress is useless, if people who are close and related to me are not progressing, family, friends, colleagues, my state, country, continent, and black people all over the world. My joy lies in that progress, that collective progress because if the group progresses, then I automatically progress.
Exclusve Interview with Brymo
ASIRIDo you think the words, culture and identity are connected?
Oh, yes. The person you are is how you live your life, day in, day out and how you live your life, day in, day out is your culture. What do you worship, if you worship anything? What do you wear? What do you say? What do you eat? All of this things put together make up who you are and most importantly, how do you think? Sometimes I like to exclude fashion, food and language from culture. I believe culture basically is how you think, whether you think positively or negatively, progressively or regressively. So culture and identity are very much intertwined.
ASIRIHas culture influenced your music in any way?
Yes, a lot. I think that when you compare your culture to that of other people, particularly from other races or people from other countries, the essence is to find the balance. What are the thoughts you have in your head, your thought processes? Things in your day to day life that you thought were attractive, but they’re not necessarily attractive and then you find in other cultures, things are done differently. So I believe that my duty is to compare cultures and pick out the best in mine and the best in theirs. I believe the variety in cultures around the world helps us to decide what is good in our culture and what is not good enough because we see other people and how they behave, then compare it to ours. So for me now, when I make music, I look for the best of my culture and infuse it in my music and then I also look around the world for other cultures and fuse everything together in such a way that shows that I strived to create a masterpiece, to create music that people can actually identify with, wherever they are, as long as you can hear what I’m saying. I find a way to just relate the melody, the lyrics and everything to everyone, so that it doesn’t become one sided. I believe in an ultimate culture, a universal culture.
ASIRIHas culture made you the man you are today in any way?
Yes, it has, in a lot of ways. We live in an era where a lot of people don’t have a connection with, who they really are; people don’t have any identity whatsoever. They just live their lives day in, day out but if you have an identity, you are forced to channel your life in a certain direction and then a lot of people think it’s boring, to have a set of principles, a particular method or pattern of behavior that can actually define somebody or some people so they behave randomly but for me, I’m constantly looking for how to channel myself to be better because you can never be good enough. When you make mistakes, you keep correcting yourself so ultimately, I am learning my own culture, by fusing the culture of my people with other cultures around. Day in, day out, I’m improving and I’m still on the journey to finding that universal culture. *laughs*
Exclusve Interview with Brymo
ASIRITo what extent do you think music is a viable tool for preserving and promoting culture?
Oh, it is, all the time, to a very large and deep extent. Music is like the voice of the people. When you watch a movie, there’s music, when you’re at a stadium watching football, it’s the same. There’s absolutely nothing in the world that there’s not some music in it, so music determines a lot. In fact, a society is as good or bad as the kind of music it listens to. So a society should have a balance when it comes to music. People must dance, however, they must reflect. So while people are dancing, drinking and partying, when they get home, they need to be able to slot something in that makes them go, “oh, what a life.” That balance becomes necessary for any society to thrive. Music is everything, it is beautiful, it is ugly, it is fine; it makes you laugh and makes you cry, because that’s what music should do
ASIRIWhere do you see your music in the next couple of years?
Um, well I pretty much just want to make music and meet new people, gain new fans all over the world. Have people listen and love my music. My hope is to always find a way to keep relating my story to people and get more people to listen. I’ m not worried about the number of years it takes; I’m more interested in eventually. So I can’t tell you what I expect in five years. I could say I’d be the biggest artiste on earth and I end up being the biggest in the entire universe *laughs*. At the end of the day, there are no promises; there are no expectations, just belief and me trying to be happy. I’ll just keep making the music and people will keep listening. I hope the fan base keeps growing, more people tuning in and that’s the most important thing.
ASIRIWhat do you think of the idea that our culture is dying and losing its essence?
All over the world, cultures are losing their essence and that’s because, when you’re in a group here doing what you’re doing and thinking that’s what you should be doing, some other things are going on and while those other things are going on, it will reflect and influence what you’re doing. More importantly, in our own case, we live in a world where we as a people contribute little or nothing to solving the problems of the world, we just consume. So the people, who solve the problems, bring their products to us and it influences our culture. So if we’re worried about our culture losing its essence, then we must first of all start by fixing all our problems ourselves. If we can fix our problems ourselves, invent our own TV, our own cars, satellites, invent our own guns, invent everything by ourselves, then we can start to depend less on people and promote the preservation of our culture. However, ultimately, all cultures intertwine. People wear Denim and Western clothing in Japan, people eat Sushi now in Lagos, there are Nigerian restaurants now in New York, Malaysia, so cultures automatically, will intertwine. What makes you think that a Malaysian has never walked into a Nigerian restaurant to eat Eba? It happens even here, it’s the same way we eat spaghetti. People and cultures all over the world always find a way to intertwine. That’s why I believe that ultimately, it is the thought process that matters and our culture isn’t going anywhere, we live here, we are here, we are the people that belong here so our thought process is what we should pay attention to, not our clothes and other things. It doesn’t really matter that much but I believe also, that coming together and solving our problems collectively is the ultimate culture. When we start doing this, we will notice that our culture is not going anywhere, it is going to be here.
ASIRIYour music carries some cultural undertones, is this deliberate?
Yes, it is very deliberate. You see, it’s easier to not put those cultural undertones, it’s easier to just want to be western and to just want to be fly and all that, but that essence of trying to speak my language more often, trying to talk about things in relation to my own people is necessary, which is why I look for these things and fuse it with things that I have been influenced by all over the world, so that people can actually relate with the music and know more and this goes beyond me putting my culture, it becomes universal.
ASIRIDo you have any favorite cultural saying or proverb?
Umm, yeah, I think they’re like a thousand and one of them. There’s this one I like a lot that means something to me. I heard it from a friend and every time I remember, it guides me. “Ti amba fi eyin si owo otun, eyin si owo osi,ki a wa r in lati ebiyi lo si Iseyin, enia yen a yen,eni o ni yeni ko ni yene”
It simply means that, irrespective of what you do, you can never please everybody, you’re not Jollof rice *laughs*. It’s impossible for you to please everyone.

US President To Deploy 300 American Troops To Battle Boko Haram..

"U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday informed Congress he is sending up to 300 U.S. military personnel to Cameroon, the White House said, part of a stepped-up effort by Washington to counter the violent group Boko Haram.
An advance force of 90 U.S. military personnel has arrived in Cameroon, an administration official said on condition of anonymity.
The forces will be conducting airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations, the official said, adding they would be armed for their own protection.
Obama notified House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, in a letter. The White House released the letter Wednesday.
U.S. personnel began deploying on Monday under an arrangement with the Cameroon government. A total of up to about 300 U.S. service members could be sent.
They will be armed to provide their own protection and security and will stay in Cameroon until they are no longer needed.
Cameroon has been battling Boko Haram militants based in neighboring Nigeria. The group has vowed to retaliate against Cameroon for backing the Nigerian military’s mission to defeat Boko Haram.
Early this week, two female suicide bombers suspected to be members of the Nigerian militant group killed nine people near the town of Mora in Cameroon’s Far North region.
The group has proclaimed an Islamic emirate in neighboring northeastern Nigeria, enforcing a brutal interpretation of Islamic law, and also pushed into neighboring countries.
On Saturday, five suicide bombers had killed dozens in a part of Chad that borders Nigeria.
“We currently have a toll of 11 dead, including the two (female) attackers and nine civilians, as well as 29 wounded,” said a local government source.
Two military sources said the number of injured was higher, at around 38. A third woman was accompanying the other bombers but it was not clear if she had also meant to blow herself up.
Boko Haram had used Cameroon’s Far North region as a base for recruiting and supplying its operations in Nigeria until last year, when Cameroonian forces drove it out.
But it has now stepped up attacks in the area. Last month, two female suicide bombers killed at least three people in Mora.
Cameroon is participating in an 8,700-strong, Nigerian-led regional force expected to start operations against Boko Haram this year."

On Value Added Taxes, Fashola canvassed for the increase in employment opportunities in Nigeria so that VAT can be increased proportionally.

On security, Fashola said this is a very important sector in Nigeria and the major challenge of any leader. He said Nigeria is under-policed and recommended that the Nigerian Police force be decentralized.

He called for the implementation of state police as it will help reduce unemployment as more youths will be employed to police their environment an, tailors will be contracted to sew police uniforms.

He said as a Governor, he saw criminals as his competitors and in a competition his goal was to win the war against criminals.

On the effective management of the FCT, he called for the periodical review of the Abuja master plan. Fashola said elderly politicians are the guide and compass of Nigerian politics. He noted that the experience and counselling of the senior politicians have helped to develop our democracy.

Reacting to a question if he indeed spent a total of N300 million to build a website (N78 million) and sink boreholes, Fashola said:

“I have never signed a cheque as a governor. My commissioners never signed cheques. It’s an institutional thing. Nobody can award a contract outside benchmark price. There is a procurement process.”he said

He said nobody can accuse him of giving his word and going back on it. He concluded by saying: “may your loyalty never be tested” drawing analogy from a woman who needed a kidney transplant but was refused one by her own children.

Fashola said it was important for the nation to borrow to keep the economy going. He said debts must be incurred to finance public infrastructure, that debts should not be incurred to pay salaries or fuel generators.

He was asked to take a bow and go
